The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) facilitates the efforts of WKU faculty and staff to seek and administer both internal and external funding for research, scholarly activities, and public service projects.
The Office of Technology Transfer & Industry Relations serves as the primary resource for intellectual property (IP) related matters resulting from research and scholarly activites.
The Office of Economic Development integrates WKU's facilities and services with the private sector to support regional economic growth.
The Center for Research and Development houses world-class research scientists and research capabilities, as well as a Business Accelerator and a Center for Innovation and Commercialization.
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) assist those in the private sector interested in starting small businesses or growing existing small businesses to the next level.
The WKU Research Foundation supports the efforts of Western Kentucky University to promote the development, implementation, and coordination of extramural sponsored programs involving research, instruction, and public service.
The Research Compliance Program is an extension of the Office of Sponsored Programs and seeks to foster an environment of compliance and promote the responsible conduct of research at WKU.

Mission

The Office of Research and Economic Development at Western Kentucky University promotes, encourages, and provides assistance for research and scholarly activities in all disciplines by the University faculty, staff, and students. The office also facilitates the transfer of knowledge in the form of know-how, discoveries, creative works, inventions, and processes resulting from research and scholarly activities by faculty, staff, and students to the private sector to support economic development.
