Faculty Scholarship Awards (Back to Top)
Faculty Scholarship Awards are internal grants that provide support for research and creative activity leading to faculty growth and development.
Western Kentucky University's mission focuses on scholarship in its four forms -- discovery, integration, application, and teaching -- thus, all professional activity by faculty, regardless of the discipline, is encompassed in this definition of scholarship.
Scholarships are awarded by the Faculty Scholarship Council, which meets regularly during the academic year based on availability of funds, and are administered by the Office of Sponsored Programs. Click on the links below to go to the Program Announcement for each of the Faculty Scholarships. Note: The Faculty Scholarship Council does not meet to review proposals during the summer months or in December.
New (formerly "Junior") Faculty Scholarships support project operating costs for regular, full-time, tenure-track Western Kentucky University faculty within the first three years of appointment or following promotion to assistant professor rank. Apply anytime during the academic year.
Regular Faculty Scholarships support project operating costs for regular, full-time, tenured or tenure-track Western Kentucky University faculty. Apply anytime during the academic year.
Summer Faculty Scholarships allow for Principal Investigator summer project salary (including cost-shared fringe benefits) and/or project operating costs for regular, full-time, tenured or tenure-track Western Kentucky University faculty. Apply by announced deadline.
Proposal Incentive Fund (PIF) (Back to Top)
In an effort to encourage external funding at Western Kentucky University, the Office of the Provost and the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) have created a Proposal Incentive Fund (PIF). Its purpose is to support research and creative activity projects of WKU faculty and staff members that may result in obtaining external funding. To enlarge our infrastructure for research and creative activities, you may request funds for a variety of purposes to improve external funding opportunities. In your application a direct connection should be shown, in terms of outcomes, between WKU's strategic plan, your proposed project, and future attempts to apply to external sponsors for support. PIF funds are meant to provide resources for WKU students, and for faculty and staff to obtain external funding. Download the PIF forms and guidelines by clicking the links below:
